Are you up for visiting wineries with your family?

Haro

We will start our adventure in Haro, one of the most important towns in La Rioja in terms of wine production. It is located in the northwest of the region and is the most important town in La Rioja Alta. One of its main attractions is its wineries. Here you can visit Bodegas Bilbaínas, a historic building with 3,400m² of underground cellars built at the end of the 19th century. The winery was awarded the title of Supplier to the Royal Household, incorporating the coat of arms of the Spanish Royal Household on the labels of its Castle Pomal wines. The town’s important architectural legacy is also worth mentioning. Its urban centre was distinguished as a Historic Artistic Centre in 1975 and has a large number of artistic and cultural incentives.

Laguardia

Would you like to travel back in time? Let’s continue our route through the medieval town of Laguardia, a town founded to defend the kingdom of Navarre. Its landscapes crown it as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. The best thing about it is that it is completely pedestrianised, so you can walk through its streets in complete peace and quiet. Next to it, in the heart of La Rioja Alavesa, is Bodegas Ysios, a spectacular building designed by Santiago Calatrava and an essential visit for wine tourism.

Cenicero

If you are also looking to enjoy nature, your next stop is Cenicero. It is said that the name of this town comes from the tradition of shepherds gathering here and leaving the ashes of their bonfires on the banks of the river. From here you can follow the Rioja Route, which coincides at some points with the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela and the Basque Route, where you can enjoy the landscapes of the Sonsierra. Furthermore, this town is one of the most outstanding points of wine culture and is home to several of the most important wineries. Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres is internationally renowned and, at its facilities, you will be able to learn about the work in the vineyard and wine production at the winery.

Logroño

We pass through the capital, where most of the most important wineries in the region are located. As well as being able to taste its wines in the famous Laurel and San Juan streets, it is the ideal city for travelling with the family. You can enjoy its natural surroundings on the banks of the river Ebro and stroll through the historic centre, located less than five minutes away. Bodegas Franco Españolas is a century-old winery right in the centre of Logroño, just a stone’s throw from its historic quarter. Famous for its Bordón and Diamante wines, the winery hosts different shows and cultural events throughout the year, allowing visitors to get to know the facilities and enjoy an innovative wine tourism proposal.

Arnedo

If you are interested in discovering La Rioja Oriental, Arnedo has to be your base of operations. The first thing you should do is stroll through its streets, where you can see the Baroque-era palace-houses and walk along what was once the enclave of two important Roman roads. A town with a great passion for wine, where you can enjoy a complete oenological experience at Bodegas Faustino Rivero Ulecia, one of the main producers of DOCa Rioja. In short, a wine tour in La Rioja is a unique and unforgettable experience to spend a few days with the family. Visiting the region’s most emblematic wineries and tasting its exceptional wines is an opportunity to get to know the history, culture and passion behind wine production in this region of Spain that offers a multitude of tourist experiences.
